Yes, and possibly more. The real upside to using the hearts, is there is no waste. You won't have the shells all over the place.

I couldn't find any last winter, so I had to use the black oil sunflower. I have the shells all over the place. Plus the inevitable sunflowers growing. Will I attract the same variety of wildbirds with sunflower hearts (no shell) as I do with black oil sunflower
Yes. A chain store called Wild Bird Store Inc I think is its name. I used to live near one in VA . and they informed me of that information. Enjoy!

Is sunflower oil a good oil to seal my ends with?

Sunflower is a pretty heavy oil compared to other oils. If you want to seal your ends, I would use a light oil, such as sweet almond, coconut or jojoba oil. I especially recommend jojoba oil because it has the same chemical structure to natural oils that we produce, so you won't leave your hair a greasy mess. It really helps tame hair too. You can get it from any health food store. Is sunflower oil a good oil to seal my ends with?
It wouldnt seal it it would do good for your hair dont get me wrong because sunflower oil is great for hair but if you wanna seal your ends think about gettng a heavy duty greese to put on them but dont put that on all of your hair unless you wash it out because the greese is unbelievable!

    Black oil sunflower seed sprouts?

I feed the wild birds in my yard black oil sunflower seeds. some took to sprout...will they flower? I have potted them and they are growing very well, (4';now)Black oil sunflower seed sprouts?
I had that happen to me last year. I had about 40 sunflowers in my flower bed. Some got to be more than six feet tall and the stalk was about 4 inches. As the flower blooms started to shrivel I would cut them (the ones I could reach) and put them under a tree to dry out and the birds and squirrels had a hay day with them. But be careful if you have them in your flower bed because seeds will drop and they will sprout the following year.Black oil sunflower seed sprouts?
Yes, they will grow, and get sunflower heads on them, and when they are ripe, VOILA!...you have more sunflower seeds. Better grow them OUTSIDE in the garden, they can get pretty big.

Oil, it's unsaturated and is filled with good fats like polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat which lowers cholesterol.

    It's also the most expensive.

Are black oil sunflower seeds ok to give to hamsers?

my hammies even ate roasted sun flower seeds, (human snack). i think it's ok, they love it.Are black oil sunflower seeds ok to give to hamsers?
they love them but they dont have any salt cuz the salt is bad for them but sunflower seeds werw always there favorites
We grow sunflowers every year, and the hamsters LOVE getting a chunk of sunflower to de-seed. We have grown both varieties, and they're equally popular. It's better when they're home-grown, because they aren't salted.
I give my hamster sunflower seeds with out salt. She eats them right up. To my knowledge sunflower seeds are good for them because then the skin has oil so they won't scratcch.

  • Why does iodine react with the molecules in certain oils e.g; olive oil, peanut oil, soya oil & sunflower oil?

Iodine reacts with some oils because they have some double bonds in the molecules.

I would think the reaction is electrophillic addition because of the negative region in the oil.

I'm hoping these particular oils are quite thick and gloopy, otherwise it would be more likely that they are fats!

I`m a type 2 diabetic patient.is it healthier if i use non refined sunflower oil for cooking?

I think you are spending too much time in health food store. Canola, olive oil and vegetable sprays would be both healthier and more cost effective.

Deep frying requires a high flash point, so commercial restaurants use peanut oil or oils such as Frymax which have better long term results. If you are trying to maintain weight loss, you won't be deep frying. Canola oil breaks down so it isn't good for anything but salads and normal cooking, but not frying. Olive oil has a low flash point, so it can't be used for anything hotter than sauteing.I`m a type 2 diabetic patient.is it healthier if i use non refined sunflower oil for cooking?
AS a type 2 your health is determined by the amount of glucose you need or do not need to consume. Oil does not constitute a glucose substance.I`m a type 2 diabetic patient.is it healthier if i use non refined sunflower oil for cooking?
I hear that rapeseed oil is much better than sunflower oil. Something to do with it being mono as apposed to polyunsaturated. Look it up on the web.
Oils for cooking have absolutely nothing to do with healthy eating for type 2 diabetics! Oils are only for keeping stuff from sticking to the cooking pan.

I use butter and very little of that! It is a natural fat with no preservatives in it.
Yes. It will not immediately affect your blood glucose level one way or another. But, avoiding heavy, fatty oils (like vegetable oil) when cooking may help you to lose weight - which will help better manage blood sugar in the long run.

Can i mix sunflower oil with olive oil?

i'm frying something and there's not enough oil so can i add olive oil or butter or somthing? Can i mix sunflower oil with olive oil?
It is a myth that heating olive oil produces dangerous toxins. See the below link for a technical discussion about this issue. People around the Mediterranean have been using olive oil for cooking (in other words, heating it) for millennia without there being any sign of them succumbing to toxins. Indeed, olive oil is a central component in the ';Mediterranean Diet'; which is generally considered very healthy.

I see no reason why you cannot mix olive oil and another oil or butter.

Indeed, one of the recipes I regularly use for risotto calls for a mixture of butter and olive oil.Can i mix sunflower oil with olive oil?
Yes, you can. However, if I had more sunflower oil than olive oil then I would use the sunflower oil and save the olive oil for salads or dipping. If I am pan frying seafood in particular I would use olive oil and butter. Vegetables and meats then I would like the Sunflower oil. Something? well, I must say that I learned cooking from Julia Child and a little butter lifts all cooking to a higher level. I never use margarine in cooking. I must say when it comes to cooking try it, taste it, adjust seasonings if necessary and enjoy.

How do i make bio diesel from used sunflower/vegetable oil?

i have seen it on 'BBC 2' on a program called 'it's not easy being green', they boiled up the used vegetable or sunflower oil with a chemical (dont know what chemical) to produce bio-diesel.

they say that anyone can do it, i have done some rresearch and there are many many different palns online for converting bio-diesel, but i have seen none that were as simple as the BBC program.

it is about 50% - 60% cheaper than diesel and is legal.

i would love to know how to convert used sunflower/vegetable oil into bio-diesel.How do i make bio diesel from used sunflower/vegetable oil?
Okay the main reason you cant bung it in your car is because it isnt runny enough. So all you have to do is thin it out a bit.

Start by finding the runnyest oil you can find (just a bit of research is all that it needs) also look on the bottles of spray oils where you spray oil onto fod from a spray bottle. These will have ingredients in their that act as thinners. Bycycle oil may act as a good thinner?

Once you have your oil just simply mix it with diesel try mixtures first off try a 25% mix then 50% and 75% apparantly they work quite well:

    http://www.ravenfamily.org/andyg/vegoil.鈥?/a>

This website is a fantastic resource and you dont need any chemical knowledge. Just follow the guidelines and you should be fine, if your oil mixture is runny then it shouldnt mess up the cars engine at all. As you get more confident, try mixtures of 55,60 to find the optimum mixture for you. But for now keep it low try 25% oil for starters.

With this alone you save 拢15 every time you fill the tank.

If you want to try some chemistry the Belgium patent out on this suggests hacking off some chemical groups in order to make the oil more runny. They suggest using ethanol with you can basically get from vodka, for purer mixtures of ethanol put the vodka in a plastic container in the freezer and as soon as a big lump of ice is formed pour the remaining liquid onto your oil, this should be ethanol. Ethanol freezes at a higher temp than water so thats how you can sort of purify it a little.

Hope that helps! How do i make bio diesel from used sunflower/vegetable oil?
lol,,,,,,,,some muppet reckons he used to run his car on chip fat....!!!!!!

i said , 'do you put salt n vinegar on it, n all '

    lol
    Here is only a suggestion:

First I would filter the oil to remove particulate matter. It would be possible to distill it to purify it more. This could be distilled with or without water. If it is distilled with water the distillate would probably need to be separated into the water and oil phases. Hope this helps.
If you google ';biodiesel recipe'; with google - you will find a variety of decent ones.

Mostly it goes like this:--Obtain WVO (Waste vegatable oil), if you use pure oil then you can often run it straight into the tank.

filter out any lumps and gritty bits

warm oil to around 45 degrees C

    Add Sodium Hydroxide (lye)

Add methanol OR ethanol OR (worse case, methylated spirits)

    Stir for a few minutes

Allow to settle into three layers.

Middle layer is the one you want - bio-diesel

top and bottom layers are soap and glycerine - both harmless by products.

Different recipes call for different amounts of Lye and methanol - stick to which version you prefer.

Used chip fat once refined as above is PERFECTLY adequate for making into biodiesel - and many restaurants will GIVE you the waste oil for free :)

    Mark
Look the stuff that comes out the ground is bio oil....in fact thats what they make margarine and so called low fat spreads from ( coal was used at one time).

Basically take your veg oil and add a small proportion of methylated spirits......probably no more than 10%.

You'll get done for evading fuel tax of course

  • Why are sunflower seeds roasted in cottonseed oil?

Don't they know about sunflower oil? You don't fry bacon in sheep lard. Why are sunflower seeds roasted in cottonseed oil?
Roasting sunflower seeds in sunflower oil. It sounds cannibalistic.

The real reason is that cottonseed oil is cheap. Why are sunflower seeds roasted in cottonseed oil?
That's funny! But it might be that cottonseed oil is healthier. I'm not sure.
Sunflower seeds are roasted in cottonseed oil because cottonseed oil is cheap, cheap stuff, basically a by-product of cotton-making.

Sometimes you find peanuts that are not roasted in peanut oil either--same difference--the manufacturer found something cheaper to use.
It's just another part of the conspiracy!
I'm not really sure. Perhaps cottonseed yields more oil than sunflower oil so it's cheaper?

Either way, I don't use sunflower or cottonseed oil. They weren't grown as a food crop, so they have insecticides and chemicals in them. I use olive, peanut, corn, or canola oil.

Can i use sunflower oil as a oil paint medium?

I have tried to use sunflower oil before, and it tends to crack red paint, and orange paint as it dries. After many years of painting, I use orderless paint thinner (White Spirit) and Maimeri Oilyn as a painting medium. Oilyn is new and it works like Liquin, but since I use Maimeri paints, I prefer Oilyn. One note about mediums, they will tend to make your painting shiny, so if you are going for a subdued opaque feeling, make sure to mix more paint than medium and to use an opaque final varnish (only when the painting is really dry!). Can i use sunflower oil as a oil paint medium?
No doubt you could do, but it would be a false economy if you consider the cost of the paints themselves.Even Leonardo's paintings were falling apart in his own lifetime because he could not resist experimenting. Stick with Turpentine spirit and add up to 50% Linseed oil.I buy mine at the DIY sheds rather than the posh art shops,it works just as well and has shown no sign of yellowing in up to 50 years.

Actually, joking aside. ANY vegetable oil is safe. I prefer Canola.
    Yes of course it is.
No of course not. The sunflower used to be alive. Use engine oil instead. But then that comes from old plants. You'll have to do without.
yes it is, i think you will find most oils are, try walnut oil, thats lovley drizzled onto salads!
Do you know what a sunflower is? What do you think oil is normally made from? I am sorry but the name gives it away...
It depends on whether they are free ranger sunflowers or caged. Also, do you know what they've been fedor how they're nurtured? Some sunflowers are actually fed BEE POLLEN!
No, many sunflowers are brutally butchered in the making of the oil. The methods of slaughter are invariably painful and careless. They are often abused during their life and made to sleep in very cramped conditions. If they are wild sunflowers, for the more high-end oils, hunters trap them in nets as they frolic in the woodland.

Does anyone know if i can run a t reg diesel mondeo on sunflower oil and what is the best mix?

What the people who keep encouraging this sort of option forget is that if you are ever pulled up at a VOSA roadside fuel check, and they find an 'alternative' fuel you will be in a sticky situation. It is NOT illegal to run your car on alternatives but if you do and the revenue are informed - which VOSA would probably do - they can arbitrarily tax you on how much they estimate you have used. To legally use what is not actually illegal to use as such (if that makes sense) the liquid will be taxed as motor spirit.

Also, just how long your engine will run satisfactorily is open to debate as the diesel you buy has a number of additives such as anti-knock, detergent etc in it - it is not just any old light weight oil.Does anyone know if i can run a t reg diesel mondeo on sunflower oil and what is the best mix?
You should have no problems unless it has a Lucas fuel pump (although I also have a report of someone using 100% svo on a Lucas equipped Mondeo).

I would advise trying 60/40 diesel to oil to start with, should certainly be fine at 50/50.

    The benefits of sunflower oil?

Is it good for sensitive skin -

I like to apply it topically on my face, it feels nice.

    Thanx.The benefits of sunflower oil?
Benefits and Uses of Sunflower Oil in your Beauty Recipes

Sunflower Oil is a popular ingredient in many skin products (over the counter and homemade). Should you include Sunflower Oil in your homemade skin care recipes? Find out more about the benefits of Sunflower Oil below.

Sunflower Oil - From Your Shower To The Table

When it comes to food, natural sunflower oil is an excellent oil of choice. It is light in taste, odorless, and rich in health essential fatty acids. However this oil is also sensitive to heat so you may want to exclude sunflower oil from baking or frying to receive it's maximum nutritional value. It can used with healthful herbs and spices as an excellent salad dressing and works great in any other ';cold'; recipes.

In skin care products, sunflower is one of the favorite of softening emollients. It is rich in vitamins A, D, and especially in vitamin E and essential fatty acids. Sunflower oil has a light texture and is easily absorbed by skin, making it excellent for use in lotions, creams, massage oils, and other topical applications.

For many soapmakers, sunflower oil is the moisturizing oil of choice in soap recipes. Being high in linoleic fatty acid it can make a gentle skin softening soap, but the only downside is those linoleic acids also comes with a shorter shelf life than many other oils. That's why it is important that sunflower oil is balanced with other oils in proportions so that the benefits can be felt without increasing the likelihood of spoilage in soaps or any other cosmetic applications.

Use of natural preservatives such as additional vitamin E, rosemary extract, or grapefruit extract also helps recipes with higher amounts of sunflower oil to slow down the oxidation process which helps the overall product last significantly longer. Sunflower oil also comes in a ';high oleic'; formula that gives the oil an extended shelf life for cosmetic applications, although the benefits may feel somewhat different since it's essential fatty acid composition becomes slightly similar to olive oil at that point.

.. .. ..Will bio fuel like corn/coconut/sunflower oil for vehicles affect the food production?
    plant products used as a substitute for petroleum based fuels are real, and are an excellent way to utilize agriculture to reduce or eliminate the west's dependency upon foreign oil. Here is how;

    1. vegetable oil used as a diesel fuel, after processing, is an excellent fuel, and does little to reduce the food available on the market. Here is how, Palmyra is the highest producing oil plant source, and it will grow in large areas of the world where there is a tropical climate, plenty of water, and long growing seasons--this is not a regularly used food product, it is most often used for soaps, and other products...

    2. grains such as corn or rape, or soybeans are food items, however, their cost has increased due to the demand for the oil as a source of energy, and the cost of petroleum for production...these grains will produce about 100X the amount of energy (btu's) that is required to produce them, and after the extraction of the oil, there is still a food product left fit for consumption-so, you can have it both ways...

there are many other examples, do not get mired in the liberal/greenie/gay/leftist mind set that the west is responsible for the famine occurring in the world today-that is just not the case, and 'wealth re-distribution' as advocated by the liberal dems in the usa mean your wealth needs to be redistributed, not theirs...good question
Yes, the crops listed if grown for fuel have raised the price of food and will continue to do so. They don't help with greenhouse emissions enough as well so are not a good solution.

The oil supply of the world has pretty much peaked and has been declining steadily for all the largest, oldest oil fields which supply about 50% of daily production. Current new oil fields are very small by comparison and number in the thousands supplying the other half of production, including the North Slope folks. Tiny.

However there is a better crop to grow, the best fuel to produce is biodiesel from algae or bacteria, this oil when burned reduces emissions by 60% of what gas/ethanol does and can be produced in the volume required to run the country on them. All this purifies the water in the end, including removal of heavy metals.

These only require a nutrient and sunlight supply and don't affect the cost of food.

A social solution is to use wastewater effluent, or any polluted river, as the source of nutrients. Being water dependent, the equipment is being developed to take advantage of this process. It'd help to force the oil companies to have a biodiesel pump at every gas station.

Don't expect the oil companies and auto-makers to jump to biodiesel ...

Ultimately anything that is done will not prevent humanity overheating the planet. If we stopped the excess greenhouse emissions, reduced them to pre-Industrial Age levels, we will still overheat the planet in so many generations. It will happen because we put so much waste heat into the world, however you get it, we release so much by so many that just our living produces waste heat.

So, the ultimate consideration is the thermodynamic transfer of energy in our living systems, they all must be revised to conserve energy in any way and reduce them.

Autonomous housing, non-heat wasting electrical generation of power (a nuclear plant puts twice the power output it puts into the wires directly into warming the water it is connected to, this is direct global heating) as a key issue for hybrid cars being actually better overall than just burning fuel (how many transformations of state are required to put a watt in the car), along with regen braking.

Currently the design of products and systems to do this are a joke in terms of investment, sustainable industries will in the end be the winners however, with oil-based economies pricing themselves right out of the market, so, why wait Wall Street, refocus transportation fuels to biodiesel this week and watch those companies grow ...
Many developing countries have more population than their own agriculture can support. This has happened because they have been given so much food by the more prosperous countries and have become welfare whores. If they can't feed themselves then their population should decrease. If we hadn't given them a free ride for so long they wouldn't be in this position now. Its time for Hatians and other poor people to fix their own problems and stop blaming others for their misery.
It already has. The poor people in Haiti are making ';cookies'; out of dirt because they can no longer afford to buy rice or corn. It's happening all over the world. So, what did I do? I bought 2 cars that run on natural gas (methane). It's very cheap to fill up, very clean for the environment, and there's lots of it in the USA, so we can keep the money in our own economy. Check out my sources and see if you have a natural gas filling station near you so you can have one of these vehicles, too! It's soooo much better than wasting food sources to make fuel when you don't have to.
It will starve the world to death. There are alternitives to Using oil products for fuel. There are hydrogen Generators on the market that use water and the electricity from your car to produce enough hydrogen and oxygen from tap water to increase your mileage by 40 to 60 %
yes, that has been the problem over the last bit. global food prices are on the rise. thta is why bio fuel will never take off. why our milk, bread etc is so expensive? High gas $ has some blame but that bio fuel is a large bit. bio fuel is not good for country or enviornment. encourage your government to go for electricity.
Look at the food prices that are rising, it is already happening with the minute amount of fuel we get from those sources now.

It is time to stop this silly experiment while we can still afford to eat.
It already has, ever since the stupid government mandate that we burn a major food staple for fuel, the price of food has nearly doubled. And this has also caused food shortages all over the world.
Yes demand is higher so is prices however I'm currently trying to make fuel out of waste FYI NO change in cost and primary on algae for biodiesel
    price of corn is doubled...

Would it dammage my car if I put sunflower oil in instead of diesol?

How would I ******* know? I'm only 9 years old!! (it's true)Would it dammage my car if I put sunflower oil in instead of diesol?
Diesel! If you used only sunflower oil, you might sustain engine damage, but if you blended it similarly to the way soybean oil is blended (95/5 to 80/20) you probably wouldn't notice any big difference.Would it dammage my car if I put sunflower oil in instead of diesol?
yes. your a moron thats like putting deisl in an unleaded car.
It won't damage the engine itself but it will clog ALL of your fuel delivery system. The injector pump will be expensive to replace, as will the injectors. If you have an old tractor you could run it on 50/50 diesel/sunflower oil. 100% oil if you FILTER it EXTREMELY well. diesel fuel contains sulphur that cleans and lubricates as well as adding bang. sunflower oil does not so it gums up, eventually seizing the rings and causing radical valve recession.

The suflower oil though is unsaturated but contains long chain fatty acids which are not easily assimilated in the stomack. It is also learnt that unsaturated fatty acids have negative effect on thyroid leading to many problems. coconut oil is the best cooking oil from all angles as it contains medium chain fatty acids that are easily digestable and directly produce enegy rather than accumulation in arteries. Sunflower oil is polyunsaturated. Olive oil, canola oil and rapeseed oil, (which is often sold as just vegetable oil) are monounsaturated. Of the mono oils, canola oil is a rich source of vitamin E.

Sunflower oil stain on tshirt (wash again or buy a new one?)?

Is it likely to come off somehow? I don't know if its oil or pineapple juice, but it wouldnt come off just with water when I tried, so maybe oil.

It isn't a huge awful stain, but it is there, looks a bit like shadow but I keep looking at it now.

I don't know if I should buy a new one, it wasn't expensive anyway and I do love the top, so always handy to have a spare I guess.

Or should I wash it in the machine or use something special to clean it?

thanksSunflower oil stain on tshirt (wash again or buy a new one?)?
Pineapple juice is a minor stain at best and it should come out with a regular washing. Since it didn't come out, you will need to treat it as a grease stain. Dishwashing liquid works well on grease, oil and fat based stains. Dawn dish liquid is one of the best grease removers you can buy. Apply a little directly on the stain and allow to penetrate all the fibers. Let sit for a while, fifteen to twenty minutes, then wash in the warmest water that the item can handle with a good liquid laundry detergent.

Here are several excellent source for information on common laundry stains and how to handle them:

which oil we should use for our daily meal cook at home?for kids, for adults ?Which vegetable oil we should use to cook at home everyday? sunflower or soyabeen ,which oil is good?
Although sunflower %26amp; soya oil are fine, I suggest to use unhydrogenated, monounsaturated oils/fats like olive oil, canola oil %26amp; peanut oil. These oils are known to increase the amount of Good cholesterol or HDL.

As with all oils, these should be used sparingly.Which vegetable oil we should use to cook at home everyday? sunflower or soyabeen ,which oil is good?
corn oil ...its the most healthy
soyabeen is ok for frying i like EVOO for cooking
Canola oul, and make sure it's non-hydrogenated.
    olive oil
aether one they do not absorb the flavor of other foods
all vegetable oil, except those derived from palm/ coconut are healthy. sunflower oil is expensive, while soya bean oil is much cheaper, because china produce it in huge quantities. but you need to understand that oil is still fat, meaning healthy or not, it still contains a lot of calories!
the best oils for cooking are grapeseed oil, olive oil. safflower oil sunflower oil is good soybean oil is only good if it is organic much of the soy that is grown is grown for livestalk feed which is sprayed with 10 times more pesticides than that which is grown for humans. How ever the oil is still used in common vegetable oils. Canola oil is probably the worst of all the oils it comes from a plant called rape weed which is grown in Canada it the kind of oil used in paint. lt's easy to grow since it's a weed it does not have to be sprayed with pesticides because the bugs won't even eat it. The Canadian Government paid of The Food and Drug Administration to approve this money making crop.
For everyday use I would suggest Olive oil as itis the best and healthiest of the lot of them
use olive oil, its very good for you...
We're very health conscious around this house, and my wife uses Canola(?) oil. I question the name of it since she is the cook and main shopper, so, I hope I spelled it right. She used to be part owner of a small baked potato restaurant in the local mall that did good business, so she knows what she's doing with food, and the canola oil leaves the food tasting great. God Bless you.
Use Olive oil, much lighter and taste better
    Olive extra virgin cold pressed.

Best taste, least 'oily' flavor. Healty.
I use olive oil. Canola oil is good for you, too.

Sunflower oil can be purchased at any regular grocery store. Its right with the regular oils like vegetable oil and corn oil. I have even seen it Wall-mart Supercenters
They usually have it on the regular grocery store, if not, try to find something like Whole Foods, Central Market or Market Street.
If you're in the US, you can buy it at any grocery store. Just walk down the aisle that sells all of the vegetable oils and shortenings, and look at the labels. You'll see many different types of oils, including sunflower.

It appears that black oil sunflower seeds are quite nutritious, but because they are for birds, may contain debree and dirt and sometimes pesticides. Just about anything that contains protien contains some level of phytoestrogens (including meat) just some things have higher levels than others. Sunflower oil has a fair amount, but not the level of say, soy or flaxseed oil. You really need to have very high levels of phytoestrogens to see any effect from them. It shouldnt be a giant worry unless you are having soy and flaxseed in every meal. i hope that helps.Does sunflower oil contain phytoestrogens?

Ok, from the internet it seems that sunflower seeds do contain phytoestrogens, but if these are pass into the oil is another question. Can't help you any more.
If you are asking because you are planning to avoid these phytoestrogens, then forget about it. They are in 'everything'. They are natural and as humans we are designed to digest these. So, if you have any worries, you may not stop worrying.

anyways.. 120ml of liquid is equal to about 4oz or 1/2 cup
I use 'English' measures but if my calculations are correct:

    1 ounce = 28 grams

    so 120ml ( is 1/2 cup in English ) = 4 ounces

    so

    4 X 28 = 112 grams.

  • How to make sunflower oil?

Has anyone made sunflower oil in a simple and cheap way?How to make sunflower oil?
I don't know exactly how sunflower oil is processed, but it would seem to me based on the price and availability of sunflower seeds that the cost of the seed alone will prohibit it from being cheaper. And once you factor in the expense of materials and time to produce the sunflower oil, it will be not cost saving by any means. How to make sunflower oil?
In a word no, but if you have a seriously large volume (100kg +) then you might want to investigate the indian kit available for processing Jatropha for bio-diesel, as it will operate on a small scale and is relatively inexpensive.

Are Lays chips healthy now since they are fried with 100% Sunflower oil??

I read the nutrition content and most of the fats are mono-unsaturated and poly-unsaturated fats which are good for you, right? Are Lays chips healthy now since they are fried with 100% Sunflower oil??
Anything is healthier cooked in sunflower or any polyunsaturated fat rather than veg oil-however no food is BAD for you eaten in moderation and proportion to your diet-while you should eat to live-NOT live to eat, food should be enjoyable and fun

all things in moderation (with maybe a couple of exceptions,,,,lol) x xAre Lays chips healthy now since they are fried with 100% Sunflower oil??
They're fried. There's your clue. If you want to make it a major food group, then they're gonna cause problems.

But having a small bag occassionally (like once a fortnight) is ok.

Moderation in everything is the key.
No. That just eliminates one of many problems. Frying isn't healthy no matter what fat you use, and you aren't supposed to have a lot of fats in your diet, even the ';healthier'; ones.
I was just wondering about the same since my Mom eats them. I was thinking she ate the baked chips which are not greasy and tastes better, overall healthier.
They are just as greasy as ever.
    key word '; fried ';

A slightly better option are the ritz baked chips.
eh, they are healthier than before...
No matter what they are fried in, they are full of salt and have no nutritional value. Take a look at the results of soda, chips and fast food all around you.

What oil has the leasts amount of fats in it? sunflower oil, vegetables oil, other etc oils.?

Fat = Oil. An oil is a liquid fat.

They are all 100% fats apart from a tiny amount of other stuff like water, sugars, proteins, minerals.

They have different compositions but tend to be just different proportions of the same ten different fats.

Opinion now is that mono-unsaturated fats are the best. The most readily available is olive oil. Next best is possibly canola which has a high proportion of poly-unsaturated fats.

There is no fixed composition for any of them, the exact make-up varies with the exact variety of plant and the growing season.

Vegetable oil is just a mixture of whatever happens to be cheapest on the market at any time - it might be a mixture of sunflower, safflower, peanut and canola one week and if canola gets expensive the makers will leave it out of the next batch. What oil has the leasts amount of fats in it? sunflower oil, vegetables oil, other etc oils.?
All oils have exactly the same amount of fat they are in fact 100% fat, olive oil, seed oils such as sunflower or soya oil etc and that equates to about 900 calories per 100 grams the highest in food stuffs.

How to make sunflower seed oil?

What are the ingredients and procedures in making sunflower seed oil?How to make sunflower seed oil?
well it is possible to make it from crushed up sunflower seeds and boil them and then skim the water to collect the oil.

Can A dawrf hampster eat black oil sunflower seeds like the stuff birds eat?

    sure why not!

Which is better for you, sunflower oil or vegetable oil?

sunflower oil, by far. Most vegetable oil is made from genetically modified soybean (google roundup ready soy) It can cause severe allergies. Sunflower is a healthier oil too.Which is better for you, sunflower oil or vegetable oil?
Sunflower oil is much healthier and has less calories.Which is better for you, sunflower oil or vegetable oil?
most of the case i use both, i dont have time to look wich one is the best. in a way that you want to control the level of collestorel i agree with corious.
of the two, sunflower, but if you can get it, safflower is even better
    sunflower
Both contain more or less the same amount of fat but sunflower has less of the saturated kind.

I don't really think it makes much difference at the end of the day. Oil is oil.
I pick Olive oil, but between those two.. sunflower oil.
I only use first quality Olive oil (little expensive but my health comes first) - it's really top for your body.
hi sun flower oil because Its a pure oisingle oil that lowers cholesterol and veg oils are mixe dand can contain palm oil whiich can give high levels of cholestorel
The best oil for health is extra virgin olive oil. Sunflower is next. All the others, unless labeled ';organic';, are from GMO plants. Corn, soy, canola...all genetically modified. Avoid GMOs like the plague.
I use olive oil for salad dressings, and when making Italian food..I use sunflower oil for everything else, as it doesn't have a strong flavor.
    Vegetable oil,
sunflower oil has very little cholesterol in it.. if any ..
    Sunflower.

';Vegetable'; oil can be from any number of vegetables, but most vegetable oil is from soybeans. Sunflower is still better.
Vegetable oil sounds alot healthier, but infact, it is not. Sunflower oil has less calories. Depends if you want to make it strong or weak.
i once heard at a talk by a dietitian - he said whatever oil is the same. it is still oilly
    sun flower oil definitly
sunflower oil as it is much lower in saturated fats

Is tin tuna in sunflower oil any good for you or is fresh tuna the one for Omega 3 oils?

I buy the one in brine, and I stock up when it's on special offer as we use it a lot in our house.I prefer fresh salmon to tinned, and it's high in Omega 3.I take fish oil tablets most days too as I have damage to my heart after cancer treatment.I tend to eat more fish than meat as it's supposed to be healthier. It's quicker to cook than meat too.Is tin tuna in sunflower oil any good for you or is fresh tuna the one for Omega 3 oils?
Tuna in spring water is the best one you can get.. the nicest tasting and more satisfying I find is the CHICKEN OF THE SEA brand.... its best tasting and tasts like real tuna steaks without all the additivesIs tin tuna in sunflower oil any good for you or is fresh tuna the one for Omega 3 oils?
Tin tuna and fresh tuna both have the Omega 3 oils, as does tinned or fresh salmon (some experts say there is more Omega 3 in salmon).
I buy tuna in brine it is supposed to be the healthier option.
both have omega 3 oils and I recently tried tinned tuna in spring water. What a difference! Much the best
I agree with the fact that both tinned and fresh tuna are good for you. Everything I've read, however, says tinned (canned) tuna should be albacore only packed in water, not oil. also, Salmon does have more omega 3.
omega 3 oil is much better for you and will lower ldl

How much does 100ml of sunflower oil weigh?

100ml = approx 2.5 fl oz therefore it weighs about 2.5 ounces which in new money is approx 100gHow much does 100ml of sunflower oil weigh?
89 g or 3.130 ounces, per the attached site. oil is lighter than water.

http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/coo鈥?/a>How much does 100ml of sunflower oil weigh?
Well it's easy to say because it's about 100 grams. It may not be exactly 100 grams, but it's really close to 100 grams because water is about 1g per 1 ml.
as a rough guide most liquids weigh what they measure so 100ml = 100 grams and so on this does vary according to the density of liquids eg golden syrup will weigh more than it measures
100mg of course, as close as makes no difference, that's how the metric system works.
    100mg

    Sunflower oil?

Anyone know of benefits of cooking with sunflower oil vs. other kinds. What about packagd foods that are fried in sunflower oil. Same question.

    Thanks.Sunflower oil?
Sunflower oil is great for your health, but high temperature is not recommended for any vegatable oil. It converts with high temperature loosing its healthful properties. Besides fried foods are not healthy either.Sunflower oil?
I use that and safflower oil, which are the 2 that can stand up to the highest temperatures, which you need for cooking Chinese food in a wok. Plus they are high in mono unsaturated fats

Sunflower oil; how good is it for skin?

    Especially sensitive skin?

I like to apply it topically on my face, it feels nice.

    Thanx.

Sunflower oil; how good is it for skin?
Sunflower oil is a nice product for sensitive skin. It is light, non-greasy, absorbs easily into the skin and is rich in Vitamins A, B, D and E, minerals, lecithin, insulin, unsaturated fatty acids.

I would recommend using cold pressed oil, rather than oil that is heat extracted or extracted using solvents which does not retain as much of the therapeutic properties and contains some of the chemicals.

It also has a shelf life of about 6-12 months. Storing it in a cold dark place or in the fridge will help to preserve it.

What is the boiling and freezing point of sunflower oil?

In order to make oil cubes! What is the boiling and freezing point of sunflower oil?
Sunflower oil contains mainly linoleic acid which has a freezing point of -5掳C and a boiling point of 229-230掳C at a pressure of 16 mmHg

Of course, due to other stuff in sunflower oil such as oleic acid, stearic acid, and palmitic acid, you can expect a freezing point depression and a boiling point elevation. (Incidentally oleic acid, stearic acid, and palmitic acid all have freezing points higher than -5掳C). The actual freezing point is dependent on the percent composition of each component.

In short: the freezing point of sunflower oil should be lower than -5掳C.

    It is low in sodium.

    Very high in vitamin A + C.

    High in vitamin E.

Try using olive oil instead of sunflower as olive tastes better and is better for you all together.
not good for you, but not bad either. just eat in moderation.
    yep very healthly
Not heard of it . It may upset stomach
Well, If I were to buy the product, I'd ask these questions:

    1. Why are they in oil when the whole point of drying them is to preserve them?

    2. Sundried tomatoes are known for having all sorts of preservatives added such as diglycerides etc.

    3. How was the oil processed, and what's in the oil (usually doen't need to be listed)?

If they are all natural and organic etc. Sure, eat up. Otherwise I'd be suspect of the hidden processes and ingredients.
Whatever floats your boat. I personally do my best to stay away from oils because it doesn't have any nutrients and does absolutely nothing but pack on fat and calories to otherwise good food. That's just my observation, though. Do what you enjoy.

  • Sunflower oil?

Is sunflower oil a good type of oil for sensitive (dry) skin. Why do you think someone can be allergic to almond oil, shea butter, olive oil, basically every type of oil when applied topically on the skin - except the sunflower oil? Is this oil perhaps more gentle? Thanx.Sunflower oil?
if you have allergies to ragweed you 'may' develop an allergic reaction to sunflower oil. but its quite rare. sunflower oil is high in vitamin E and essential fatty acids needed for beautiful skin and it offers some sun protection. there are tons of other gentler oils too. look at some and their properties on this website:

    http://fromnaturewithlove.com/soap/Fixed鈥?/a>Sunflower oil?
Try eating sunflower butter ( it's in the health food ailes with peanut and soy butters) and putting olive oil on a salad everyday- it works better from the inside out for your skin.

It is usually other additives that make shea and other oils a sensitivity problem- like perfumes and emulsifiers.

Drain the oil, salt a pepper it if needed and give it a squeeze of lemon. Serve on a bed of crispy lettuce.

    You could also:

Drain and cut into bite sized pieces and add:

1 small seeded %26amp; chopped tomato

    1/2 shoopped red onion

2 tablespoons chopped flat leaf parsley

Mix with some olive oil %26amp; white vinegar. And then put this on your bed of chrispy salad.
I would do pasta, but drain the sunflower oil into a pan, use it to sautee finely chopped garlic and one, seeded, chopped jalapeno pepper and then add it, along with the octopus, to the hot pasta and toss it with some fresh, flatleaf parsley. Salt and pepper, optional. Hot, crusty bread and a green salad with lemon juice and olive oil. YUM.

Baby oil is used to lubricate squeaky babies. It comes in winter weight and summer weight.

Baby powder is used for detonation. Small babies need only a small charge but bigger babies may require a lot of powder and a longer fuse.
Baby Powder is usually corn starch and fragrance these days. Baby oil is mineral oil.

What other oils except sunflower and olive oil can I use in cooking?

There is a variety of oils for every taste and purpose.

Peanut: ideal fo pan, shallow, deep and stir-frying. It's widely used in Asian cooking and it's also great for adding flavour to salads by using it in dressing.

Sesame: Has a powerful flavour. Common in Asian foods, salads, soups, dipping sauces and marinades.

Grapeseed: Best used in mayonnaise, stir-fries, baking and it's great for baking.

Avocado: What I like about it is that it enhances rather than overpowers delicate flavours. Ideal for dizzilin over fish or chicken. Great in dressing and as a dipping oil.

macadamia: High in anti-oxidants. Great to use in cooking, baking and dressings.

I grew sunflowers this year and want to know how to make sunflower oil?

how do you make sunflower oil out of sunflower plants i grew in my gardenI grew sunflowers this year and want to know how to make sunflower oil?
You need MASSIVE amounts of sunflower seed to harvest any useful amount of oil. About 400 sunflower plants can produce about 1 gallon of oil, and that is only if you use specific high-oil production varietes of sunflower seeds (such as Peredovik seeds).

All you really need to do is de-hull them, wrm the kernels, then squeeze the kernals in a press (easier said than done). Anyway; here's a link with directions:I grew sunflowers this year and want to know how to make sunflower oil?
    Type your question into google.

Is expeller pressed high oleic safflower or sunflower oil healthy?

one of the ingredients on my organic burrito says expeller pressed high oleic safflower or sunflower oil. is that healthy? Is expeller pressed high oleic safflower or sunflower oil healthy?
it's healthier than normal oil. Oleic oil has a higher content of monounsaturated fat vs, polyunsaturated fat. Polyunsaturated fat is more likely to raise your cholesterol and contribute to heart disease.

Your body needs a certain amount of fat but an excess, even of monounsaturated fat would still cause a problem -- and your burrito would taste like crap. So they are using a better version.

Packaged organic food like that often contains a very high amount of sodium, which may be a bigger problem here than the fat content. Is expeller pressed high oleic safflower or sunflower oil healthy?
Suzy's response fails to distinguish between the two different types of safflower oil. Her critiques of safflower oil apply to standard safflower oil but not to high-oleic safflower oil. If Suzy doesn't know the difference, she shouldn't be giving nutritional advice. Report Abuse

Not really. Safflower and sunflower oils contain large percentages of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which aren't really good for you. They also have high concentrations of omega-6 fatty acids. You should focus on getting more monounsaturated fats and omega-3s into your diet (such as olive oil, walnuts, avocados, etc). For cooking, the most stable fats to use are butter or coconut oil. But make sure to use small amounts. Olive oil can also be used for cooking but it is not as stable. Sunflower and safflower oils (and other vegetable oils) are the least stable, meaning that when heated at high temperatures, trans fatty acids are formed! And we all know that trans fats are the worst of the worst.

I do not know about getting sick from it. But I will agree that i do not really care for them as much as I used to. The tatse is just not the same as it once was. I have tried the lays baked variety of chips and they are not as bad. They only reason I can think that you may have gotten sick might be due to an alergic reaction to the sunflower oil.Anyone else get sick from these new Lays and Ruffle Chips that have sunflower oil?
Not at all. Sunflower oil is much milder than peanut oil, so I am surprised that someone would become ill.

    ST
Last week I got two little bags of lays chips. I hadn't known about the sunflower oil. They were really chewy and oily. I didn't like the texture or taste. Where I live there are local chips ( Mike Sells ) that are really crisp and made in peanut oil, they are yummy. I won't make that mistake again.

Is sunflower oil bad for you?

I noticed it was an ingredient in my instant brown rices and I've been trying to eat really healthy so if it is bad I will stop eating it. Also, if it is bad please explain why. ThanksIs sunflower oil bad for you?
It's not bad, it's not hydrogenated and can stand cooking at high temperatures without becoming a trans-fat.Is sunflower oil bad for you?
First, let's define what is good and what is bad!

Sunflower oil is not bad if you know to use it correctly and costs less than extra virgin olive oil, for example.

So, from the economical point of view, it is more economic, so it is good!

I don't agree with the previous answer just in one point: it doesn't resist at high temperatures, olive oil does. So, don't forget to change it every time that you fry something.

If you want to find more information about oleic acid and its role in lowering blood lipids, (or also in supporting memory!!!!but this still in experimental phase) then type it in a search engine. There is much research done in this subject.

Allow me also a last indication: why don't you use traditional rise? If you want to eat healthy, then try to eat traditional food. It is much better.

    *EDIT*

oleic acid is one of olive oil's ingredients that makes the difference
with a balance of other products and a realization that even good stuff can be bad without practicing moderation - - yeah. it's good. just go easy on the oil, any oil. anything heavier than air has a potential of being both bad and good. my mother, years ago, had a chant that i thought slightly bizarre at the time but have reconsidered: happy medium. everything in balance and the world gets to spin another round, we get to see another day and all's ok.
When you heat most oils to high temperatures their molecular structure changes, causing free radicals. (Free radicals have been linked to heart disease and cancer)

Coconut oil doesn't. I'd recommend switching, it can be found in most good health food shops.

  • Are trans fats created when you heat olive oil or sunflower oil beyond their smoking points?

I think this answers your question more accurately:

    Q. How exactly is trans fat created? If I bake with some (say, 1/4 cup) oil in a batter, does that make trans fats?

    A. We’ve all read a lot about the dangers of trans fats. Most of the trans fat in our diet comes from artificially hydrogenated oils that are still widely used in food manufacturing. But did you know trans fatty acids also occur naturally? The natural trans fatty acids found in milk and other foods are not considered to be a health threat. In fact, one naturally-occurring trans fatty acid called conjugated linolenic acid, or CLA, is thought to have many beneficial effects in the body.

The trans fats you need to watch out for are the ones created by artificial hydrogenation. These “Franken-fats” are polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) that have been twisted into an unnatural configuration called a trans-isomer. This means that the molecule contains the exact same number and type of atoms as it did before, but they are arranged in a different shape.

But what a difference that small change makes! Polyunsaturated fats and their trans-isomers produce completely opposite effects in the body. While PUFAs help to improve cholesterol profiles and reduce your risk of heart disease, trans fats contribute to heart disease by fueling inflammation, raising bad cholesterol and lowering good cholesterol.

What does it take to create a “Franken-fat”?

Artificial hydrogenation involves mixing polyunsaturated oils with hydrogen atoms under very high pressure--not something you could accidentally do at home! High heat can also cause PUFAs to trans-isomerize into trans fats, if it is applied for long enough. For example, you have to heat a polyunsaturated oil to 240 dgrees F for 16 hours before it begins to trans-isomerize into trans fats--and even then, only a very small percentage (less than 1%) are converted.

As you can see, normal cooking temperatures and times are not nearly enough to create any significant amount of trans fats in the foods we cook at home.

Reference: Wolff, R. L. 1993. Heat-induced geometric isomerization of alpha-linolenic acid: effect of temperature and heating time on the appearance of individual isomers. Journal of the American Oil Chemists Society 70(4): 425-430.Are trans fats created when you heat olive oil or sunflower oil beyond their smoking points?
The smoke point generally refers to the temperature at which a cooking fat or oil begins to break down to glycerol and free fatty acids. So, at this point trans fats are formed.

In practice, any monounsaturate heated to smoking point turns into a trans fat. smoking point of olive and sunflower oil are 240 degree C and 107 degree C resply. When you heat to this temperature trans fats are formed.

Is Sunflower oil healther to cook with than regular veggie oil?

Marginally yes. The contents of unsaturated fats is less.

Does mustard oil have fat like refined vegetable or sunflower oil ?

if one is on a diet, not very strict tho, is it ok to cook food in mustard oil rather than sunflower or vegetable oil. Woould that be of nay help to avoid fatty food ?

thanksDoes mustard oil have fat like refined vegetable or sunflower oil ?
Oil is a type of fat so anything that has the name oil is going to have 9cals/gram. Don't concentrate on low fat, instead try to balance and moderate fat. Sugar and refined flour products are the real bad guys. Ease up on soda and white bread. You have to have adequate amounts of good fats in your diet ti burn fat, make hormones etc. If you're not deep frying, the amount of fat used in cooking is usually negligible.

For the Chris Evans cookalong choco mug cake it says use sunflower oil. I only have olive oil. Can I use that?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/chris-鈥?/a> Is the website address of the recipe I want to make. I have everything else. Thanks. I have extra virgin olive oil.For the Chris Evans cookalong choco mug cake it says use sunflower oil. I only have olive oil. Can I use that?
Yes you can use it. Any oil would suffice. For the Chris Evans cookalong choco mug cake it says use sunflower oil. I only have olive oil. Can I use that?
You can of course use olive oil in the making of cakes but at the price it is sold in Britain it is a shame to waste the stuff on cakes. If you have that weak stuff the call extra virgin it is even better for cakes than actually eating it raw.
not in my experience. olive oil would give it a totally different flavor. but if there is as much chocolate in it as it sounds, you probably wouldn't notice
Olive oil has a very distinct flavor and Sunflower oil is very light. You are better off substituting generic vegetable oil, Safflower, or Canola oil. All of these have almost no flavor of their own.
Only if you don't mind the taste and smell of olive oil. The reason they suggest sunflower oil is because it has no taste or smell. A reason for everything........!
sunflower oil i believe is thicker in both texture and taste while olive oil is bland and thinner
Not really hon - Olive oil has a very distinctive flavour and will ruin your cake completely. Best nip to the shop for some sunflower oil instead! xxxxx
I really wouldn't use olive oil, you would be able to taste it and it would spoil the cake.

Butter, olive oil or sunflower oil?

I have some large white mushrooms growing in my lawn, I have picked one and want to cook it. I was going to slice it and gently fry it, which is best butter, olive oil or sunflower oil to fry it in?Butter, olive oil or sunflower oil?
well olive oil is the healthiest but somehow I think that butter will go best with mushrooms. Be sure it's safe anyways, wild mushrooms can be poisonous.Butter, olive oil or sunflower oil?
olive oil is best for mushroom.
    olive oil definitely
Hi. I know it's naughty but butter is the best,

    go mad and use butter.
    sunflower
got to be butter for flavour, the best way is to microwave them so as not to lose any flavour, only do for about a minute, but are you sure they are mushrooms ,not not you could do yourself some serious damage
Check out these websites about mushrooms. Some of the most poisonous are the most innocent looking. Just because it is white does not make it safe. Amanita Phaloides is deadly, pure white and beautiful. There are ways to test the mushrooms, but you have to be an expert to be sure. My husband and I have eaten some wild mushrooms but they are ones that are very distinctive like Chantarelles and Morels. Here are some web sites to give you more information:

As far as cooking mushrooms is concerned, I like butter but I don't want too much saturated fat, so I combine it with olive oil. Sunflower oil doesn't add much flavor; it is really neutral, but it would be ok. I sometimes add a few herbs, but I don't put garlic on because I think it fights with the mushroom flavor.
I think sunflower oil should be tried.
    Olive Oil
olive oil is healthy but burns very quick, for things like fry ups I would recommend sunflower oil
Olive oil is the healthy choice but you can also add a bit of butter once the olive oil is heated, it adds a wonderful aroma and better taste. the technique works for steaks too.
    olive oil
Probably sunflower oil, and I wish you luck after you eat it, if you're not sure what kind it is. I have had more than one dog die from eating wild mushrooms.
check they are actually mushrooms not toadstools cause they could be poisonous.

Its upto you with oil some will say this or that is better but most time they taste the same. I even cooked mushrooms in micro when i was re building my kitchen. Neede no oilf just a little time in micro.
    CRISCO!
fry in a little olive oil,i use extra virgin for the flavour, salt and pepper, near the end of cooking add a wee knob of butter to give them a nice nutty flavour, serve them on lovely buttered toast and a big mug of tea..oh i want some now mushrooms are my fave thing in the whole world!
    butter %26amp; olive oil
I seriously wouldn't pick mushrooms out my yard and eat them. Make sure they are the nonpoisonest kind. Other than that butter is quite flavorable.
olive oil is the healthiest one
Use the olive oil you will keep the flavour and dont wash them they hold the water like a sponge
Butter but you may want to reconsider eating it unless you are 100% sure it is not a toxic variety of mushroom. You may get sick or seriously sick or worse case scenario you could die.
    i think its olive oil
Sunflower is the best. You will shine like a Sun. Hope you donot reach near the sun.
I would use sunflower oil olive oil is to overpowering and don鈥檛 like to be heated to high temperatures, butter can burn and taste nasty, but should you be eating mushrooms that you found in your garden?
Olive oil has teh best taste and is most healthy. also add some garlic and other herbs.
