Can i use sunflower oil as a oil paint medium?

I have tried to use sunflower oil before, and it tends to crack red paint, and orange paint as it dries. After many years of painting, I use orderless paint thinner (White Spirit) and Maimeri Oilyn as a painting medium. Oilyn is new and it works like Liquin, but since I use Maimeri paints, I prefer Oilyn. One note about mediums, they will tend to make your painting shiny, so if you are going for a subdued opaque feeling, make sure to mix more paint than medium and to use an opaque final varnish (only when the painting is really dry!). Can i use sunflower oil as a oil paint medium?
No doubt you could do, but it would be a false economy if you consider the cost of the paints themselves.Even Leonardo's paintings were falling apart in his own lifetime because he could not resist experimenting. Stick with Turpentine spirit and add up to 50% Linseed oil.I buy mine at the DIY sheds rather than the posh art shops,it works just as well and has shown no sign of yellowing in up to 50 years.
